While Roger Wolfson has since retired from teaching in schools, he has never stopped lending a helping hand to people so that they may accomplish what they set out to do regarding their fitness and health goals.

These days, Roger has started a series of articles that explores the many ways of becoming more fit and healthy. His articles touch on several health and fitness elements, such as proper exercise routines and what constitutes a good diet.

In any fitness journey, people are bound to run into several setbacks here and there. Roger Wolfson refers to these as rough patches on the road to fitness. They may be discouraging, but they are not permanent.

For this blog, Roger Wolfson lists some of these challenges and how people may overcome them.

1. Exhaustion

One of the most common challenges a person can experience on their fitness journey is exhaustion or fatigue. There are many causes for this, from overtraining to lack of proper rest. As such, Roger Wolfson advises people to keep their training on a level that they can sustain, get enough rest and sleep in between workouts, and always stay hydrated. He also suggests taking supplements.

2. The plateau

It's not uncommon to suddenly encounter a plateau on a weight-loss journey, according to Roger Wolfson. As people progressively lose weight, they can't expect their bodies to shed off pounds regularly. Bodies adapt, and it is up to people to change the tempo of what they do to stimulate metabolism.

3. Stress

Roger Wolfson has always believed that stress is one of the biggest threats to a person's health and fitness, and it can manifest in many ways, from binge eating to drinking, to sleepless nights. Thankfully, there are many ways to combat stress. One of Roger Wolfson's favorite ways is to go hiking in nature, appreciate the world, and take a break from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.

Fitness for seniors: A few important points

Image source: cheapism.com While physical educator Roger Wolfson used to teach students in school about the best parts of fitness, he does have extensive knowledge in health and wellness for people of all ages. For today, Roger shares a few important points for senior citizens regarding fitness. Safety should be a primary concern. The bodies of seniors aren't what they used to be. Their bones are a bit more brittle, and their cardiovascular and respiratory capacities are a bit more limited. Because of this and other reasons, safety should be a primary concern. Warm-up and stretch time before exercising should be longer, and so should cool-down time. Image source: salushomecare.com Low impact is the way to go. Still about safety, Roger Wolfson highly recommends low impact workouts for seniors. Walking, or even cycling would be better than running. Swimming and golf would also be great options for exercise. For a more fun time, Roger suggests ballroom ...

The best motivational cues to tell yourself when fitness gets tough

Roger Wolfson is the first to recognize that many false start and failures in weight loss can be attributed to a lack in mental toughness, more than the difficulty of undergoing physical challenges. Here are some motivational cues you can tell yourself when the going gets too tough in your fitness plan. 1. 'Baby steps.' Sometimes you get to a frustration point that makes you feel exhausted just by looking at what seems to be the very daunting task of shedding off 20 or 30 pounds. "Baby steps" is a reminder to take things easy at a gradual pace. Progress can be achieved one step at a time. As Roger Wolfson suggests, even when the steps seem small, remind yourself that you get closer to your goal every time you advance. 2. 'Just one more.' There is such a thing as a saturation point. However, the chances are that the saturation happens in the mind before it does so in the body. Tell yourself to go at it for just one more time. Or this can be ju...

Winning against obesity with light workouts

Image source: huffingtonpost.com.au The problem with obesity is that it can be quite the result of a vicious cycle. Most obese individuals find it hard to start with their journey towards fitness because of the physical discomfort that comes with exercise. For this blog Roger Wolfson shares a number of relatively manageable exercises for the obese, aimed to ease them in gradually to a healthier lifestyle. 1. Walking The least that an obese person should aim for is walking. As opposed to running or jogging, walking is not too strenuous for the obese individual. The reason why it is ill-advised for the subject to undergo exercises of higher intensity is that these have a tendency to risk damage to the heart. Walking is absolutely safe as a starting exercise, and if done over some distance, it can burn quite a number of calories, too, adds Roger Wolfson. Image source: theconversation.com 2. Swimming When you’re in water, the body feels a bit lighter to carry. This can work ve...
